[SOLVED] Updating Android OS

I hope I'm in the right forum to ask this question.....

I am in need of updating the OS on my tablet as I am getting more and more messages saying that some apps are not now compatible with my device. My tablet is a standard generic Chinese job which, I must say, still works pretty well so is worth upgrading. It is a Mediatek modelTYD-108H VD1 and it is currently running Android 6.0. Obviously there is no manufacturer update available.

Can anyone point me to:

1. A downloadable custom ROM like Lineage which would be ok for this tablet
2. The best clear and simple step by step guide showing the easiest way for a non-techie to update it.

Your advice will be greatly appreciated.
