Updating BIOS for CPUs

Hi, I have been reading at some websites that you should update your bios before installing any new hardware into your motherboard. Is this true? I am about to install an AMD A10-6800K APU into my motherboard and am unsure on if I should update my BIOS or Flash my BIOS.

I last updated them 03/14/14. Should I update them and if I should, how would I update them?

How do I know if there aren't any compatibility issues? I have heard that if you try to install a CPU that was released after you last updated your BIOS then it won't work. Is this true?

The CPU was released in 2013, so the board's BIOS should support it.
