Updating bios on gateway sx2370 without operating system

tried reloading windows seven and wiped operating system, when I try from the disc, keeps giving blue screen. checks bios and has not been updates since 2011. went to gateway web site and downloaded updated bios. is there a way to reload bios from start up so I can update the bios and hopefully reinstall windows 7.

Updating the BIOS should only be done when there is an issue specifically related to the BIOS, and the new BIOS update fixes that, and you do it exactly how the manufacturer says you do it.

Fail on a Windows install is probably not a BIOS issue, especially if there was a Windows OS on there before.
Something else is your issue.

Could it be a bad hard drive, computer started having issues and was slow. That's why I wanted to do reinstall windows. Glad I backed up all the stuff on it. thanks

Could be a bunch of things. Bad drive, bad install media, etc, etc.
