I have a Toshiba Satellite L505-S5984 Laptop.

My old laptop has the OS updated to Windows 10. It worked great until it got knocked off a table and stepped on. Replaced the motherboard (NEW), and the top cover (REFURBISHED). Works fine and I want to keep it. Replacement parts cost less than $50 so far. But I do want to upgrade the CPU. Memory is 4GB.

It currently has an Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T6500, 2.1GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB. Other Specs: TPD 35W, Socket P, Mult 10.5x. Mobile Intel® GM45 Express Chipset.

I am thinking of getting the following processor: will it work ? Concern is the L2 Cache and Mult difference! Core 2 Duo T9300: Its L2 Cache is 6MB and the Mult is 12.5x.

Generally speaking, does the size of the L2 Cache and Mult (whatever that is), matter for this motherboard with this Mobile intel GM45 Express chipset?

Thanks...
Geoff

Honestly... I wouldnt even bother on upgrading it...
Just compared both of them...
The T6500 is slighly faster but the difference its so small you will regreat upgrading it and also it has more power consumption...
So basically. I would recommend to stay like that and be saving for a new desktop pc to replace the current in a distant future.

Here is the comparisson if you wish:

Thanks Ramlethal for the reply. I don't know. But I would have imagined the T9300's 2.5GHZ would have been faster than the T6500's 2.1GHz. For that matter, The T9500 is a 2.6GHz cpu and I found one for under $25. I thought maybe an ssd would help improve speed and overall performance. I know RAM is usually the best and easiest upgrade for any pc. And if I do go with a faster cpu, I need to find a better cooling fan.
