Not worried about gta iv anymore because the optimization for sli is horrible anyway plus one gpu is going out so i am thinking of selling both for 225 each or 425 for both on craigslist.com and then buying a gigabyte gt1 970 4gb to game with gta iv on since its better on single gpu's and also will be trying 4k res with it. and im curious is to if this is a good idea or not. im getting ready for gta v aswell and that will get latest gpu drivers update. (not with 680s) and also one gpu is almost fried right now(680). and was curious to see this new dynamic sample resolution and if it will run better at 4k than my sli setup of gta iv at 4k by using a nvidia control panel custom pixel resolution.
any thoughts?

If the 2 gtx680s are 4GB cards I would stick with them. Moving to a single 970 would be madness, MADNESS! If they were 2GB cards I could see some rationale behind it because of texture sizes. For example Titanfall in insane mode requires 3GB. I ran it with 1 GTX680 2GB card at 1080p, but turned on adaptive vsync and that helped, but it dropped to 40fps at times because it couldn't load everything in VRAM.

Suggestion. Stick with the dual 680's unless you are moving to another dual card setup. If you are looking to move to a single card and don't want a drop in performance, you will probably be waiting at least another generation before 1 card will top those 2 in SLI.
