Updating gigabyte BIOS

Hello,
Trying to put a EVGA 970 into my rig, but when I boot with it it it stops at the gigabyte screen and you cant access BIOS. I think I need to update the BIOS. My last one update (F9) was from 5/2012 and the newest one (F18) is from 10/2012. Put the BIOS file on a USB and booted, did the BIOS update off the usb, then when it reboots I get a "BIOS ID check error" on a black screen. The message was a little longer than that and i can load the bad BIOS again if I have to but would rather not. I was able to access BIOS and load up a back up to F9. Can anyone help me out?

Did you extract the file before you flashed it?

Why would you update your BIOS to install a GPU? That is not necessary. You may have corrupted your BIOS while trying to flash it.

Yes it was extracted.

The Bios is working just fine again now just the earlier version is running. Some threads I found were for other gigabyte boards but they required a update before the 970 would work. It was just something i was trying.
