Updating my bios for an i7-7700k processor

I have a i5-6600k processor and I want to upgrade to an i7-7700k. The problem is updating my bios for it. Is it worth the possibility of harming my computer? Or sh would I just invest in a i7-6700k since it's already compatible? I need help. I have a z170 mb

I've decided to go i7-6700k since there's not much of a difference. I use obs when streaming but I get an overload encoding error and makes my stream lag and I'm assuming it's the cpu since it's decent compared to my other parts. I have a 1070 gpu so I know that's not the problem.

6700K should be just fine for your needs.
