Updating my driver (NVIDIA GeForce GT 220

Here are my system specs
Intel (R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 760 @ 2.80 GHz 2.80 Ghz
8.00 GB Ram
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

NVIDI GeForce GT 220
4646MB Total available memory
Dedicated video memory 1024 MB
3582 MB Shared System Memory

Now, my question is this ; I've heard that it can sometimes be bad to upgrade your drivers if the card is old. This computer is from 2009/2010 can't remember. I don't think I've ever upgraded my Graphics Card..
Should I upgrade it to improve performance or would updating it actually hinder performance?

There will probably be very little change. I doubt they've updated the specific drivers for your card in the last year. They'll just be included in the unified package. (Catalyst)
