I'm looking to update a few parts on my now-outdated rig, as I've felt it chugging along for a few new titles. I have reasonable amounts of knowledge regarding my PC and what I've got to work with, however, I don't particularly feel confident in determining which parts are weighing down my setup.

Here's to hoping that someone has some insight into what is most outdated/would be an easy upgrade.

My rig specs:
Intel Core i7 930 @ 2.80GHz x2 (8xCPU)
12 Gigs DDR3 RAM
AMD Radeon HD 5800 (4095 MB) - This is likely the biggest culprit
Alienware Area 51 mobo
Windows 7 64x

I don't think I've left anything out of consequence.
This is my first hardware refresh since I've had it built(6+ years).
I look forward to your opinions.

It depends on the video card. For $500, you can get a 390x and a new power supply. 390x requires 550w or better. Make the case larger enough before purchase as this card is extra long.

I was looking to spend inbetween 300 and 1000, so maybe 500 ish?

What kind of limits would my power supply impose on a GPU upgrade?
