Good morning,

I have been trying to upgrade the RAM on my Lenovo desktop PC. It is the k450e model. I currently have 8 GB DDR3 (2 x 4 GB). I have been trying to install 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR3. It isn't working.

As I am new to this, I've noticed that the RAM I currently have installed runs at 798 MHz. The ram I'm trying to install is compatible with 1066, 1333, & 1600 MHz.

What is the best route to go if I want to increase my RAM? Do I need to replace my motherboard? It's an Intel Southbridge ID8C50. I'm obviously a little lost, so any help would be appreciated.

Thank you
Brian :)

According to the specs on Lenovo's website, your computer takes PC3-12800 DDR3 SDRAM 1600 MHz and can handle up to 32GB of RAM.

Can you clarify what brand and specs (PC3-?????) your upgraded RAM is? What exactly is wrong when you try to upgrade? Does it beep a lot? Does it not beep at all?

Try removing the memory that was already there and putting the new sticks in their place. Does that change anything? If that works, you can try adding the old memory in the other slots.

Thank you for the reply. The memory I'm trying to insert is PNY brand. I have 3 x 8 GB DDR3 sticks. They are compatible with 1066, 1333, & 1600 MHz. I bought it from Best Buy.
I have tried everything you suggested. Each time though, my computer wouldn't boot when I tried to start it.

That's what I bought. Maybe it is bad memory. Thanks for your help! any other suggestions are of course welcome 😉
