Updrading from non-legit 8.1

Hey,

I just bought a retail key for Win 10 Pro, but sadly I currently have pirated Win 8.1 installed on this PC. If I upgrade from pirated win8.1 will pirated status still carry over or will it leave a mark somewhere?

first remove all the cracks if you have done something to make windows 8.1 look legit and then install windows 10. as long as it is a legit key it will work

EDIT: this is if your upgrading by installing over windows 8.1 (not doing a clean install)

If you're doing a clean install of Windows (which I would recommend), I can't imagine there being any issues.

Make sure you are installing a Full Version and not an Upgrade Version.

Do a clean install - delete the old(unlicensed) OS, and you won't have an issue.

Then, when it fails Activation, buy a genuine licence key from Microsoft and get yourself legitimised.
