hello All,
I would like some advice on a future upgrade path for my system. i brought the system privately a while back to try pc gaming (bf4 and planetside 2, and minecraft for my kids :) )
im not in a hurry to upgrade i dont mind doing a bit each month as money is very tight

my current spec is

CIT vantage diablo case
cooler master 500w psu
gigabyte ga-970a-ds3 mobo
FX-4300(OC to 4.3ghz)
XFX hd7850 2gb (oc to 1000)
kingston value 8gb (1600) ram
seagate barracuda 1TB
Corsair h80i cooler
dvd drive
roccat avro keyboard
anker 8200dpi mouse

I would like to upgrade to a Intel system (on a tight budget) and dont want to lose out on system performance, and dont mind having to get cheap now then upgrade.
I have a couple of questions, i hope you experts can help me.

1.. on a budget would it be better to go for a z97 lg1150 motherboard and cheap cpu (g3258 or i3 4140) then upgrade in a month or two to a i5 4690k or similar

or

spend more and get a older used lg1155 and i5 3730k or 2700k

2..as ill be going from AMD to Intel im guessing my 1tb drive with windows 10 on it wont work.
will i have to get a new windows 10 license as my current custom build doesnt have a windows registration key or original disk

also

id like to get a cheap £50 240gb SSD to hold windows 10 and maybe if possible some of my steam library if i can just put my most used games on ssd i dont even know if thats possible, and how to do it.

To recap i dont know how to do the motherboard and cpu upgrade without it costing a fortune on a new windows 10 license and hard drive/ssd

sorry if im being niave but any help would be very much appriciated

No need for even that. Just reconnect the hard drive after the windows install and your files will still be there.
You can delete the windows and game folders which are no longer needed.
One caveat:
On a clean install, have only the ssd connected.
Otherwise windows will put some hidden recovery files on the second hard drive that you can't get rid of.
You would be much better off just saving your money until you can purchase the whole upgrade. That way, you'll know right away if a part is faulty as opposed to a month or two after you've bought it and can't find the receipt anymore or past the store return policy time frame. Since you're waiting that long, you may as well wait a little longer until you can afford the CPU you really want (socket 1151 I5).

At this point, you will also need a new Windows 10 license. What I would recommend is that you format and partition your current 1TB hard drive to a 240GB OS partition and leave the rest as your data drive. This way, when you're ready to upgrade to the SSD, all you will need to do is clone your 240GB OS partition over to your 240GB SSD. No fuss, no muss.

What is your budget?

If you are going to change, with upgrading in mind, go with current tech, namely skylake.

I suggest i3-6100
lga1151 Z170 motherboard
8gb of ddr4 ram
Here is such a bundle for £239.99
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Skylake-3-7Ghz-Motherboard-2133Mhz-Crucial/dp/B01APIPEOI/ref=pd_sim_sbs_147_5?ie=UTF8&dpID=61ubuNkaa8L&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=09C63AE869H902FFW5VF

i3-6100 is a very good midrange gaming processor.
The Z170 motherboard allows a future cpu upgrade to i5/i7/kaby lake and allows "K" overclocking.
8gb is a good ram size and the ram speed is irrelevant.
I only suggest the bundle because it includes no more/no less than what you should buy.
I do not know if the prices are cheaper individually.

Your 7850 is a decent graphics card, at least for now.
Only if you are playing fast action shooters would a stronger card be appropriate.
It is easy to do so later.

Love the ssd; 240gb is appropriate.
I like Samsung evo.
Repurpose your hard drive for bulk storage.
intel 14nm runs cool, and you will not need the H80 cooler until you can afford a i5-6600K upgrade.

that sounds just the bundle i want
sorry to be repeat myself and being a novice
how can i get a new ssd as mentioned with new licenced win 10 [money🙁 ] to work with my old hdd which has 800gb of games movies, photos and programs on and obviously old windows 10 OS
i have a system image of entire drive on a 1TB external toshiba canvio alu and windows 10 recovery/boot on a 16gb kingston hyper x flash drive

It MAY be simpler than you think.

1. If you attach your old hard drive to the new motherboard and processor, I think windows 10 has sufficient drivers that it will boot.
You then only need to install the new drivers that will come on a dvd with your new motherboard.

Windows will ask for activation. If successful, you are done.
Or it may say you need a new activation code which you can purchase directly.

The next step would be to clone the hard drive to a ssd.
Buy a Samsung evo of sufficient capacity.
Run the Samsung ssd migration tool to do the copy.
When done, you can repurpose your hard drive for whatever.
If there is insufficient room on the ssd, there is an option to exclude large files such as videos. Those will stay on your hard drive.

In the event that you can not boot with your new motherboard, you are faced with doing a clean windows install on the ssd.
Because you are creating a new clean registry, previously installed apps will no longer work and must be reinstalled.

thankyou so much
that all sounds do able :) even if i have to do a clean windows install when thjat is done i can copy all but windows from my external i drive i guess cant i
