Hi all im wanting to upgrade my cpu its a quad core phenom x4 9350e 2ghz i think.. just upgraded my ram to 8gig and thinking on the cpu but which? i know its a arm2+ socket and understand the pins etc but at a loss where to start as my board is old thank you for any help and if you need more info im new to this :)

Do you have specific information your motherboard, from CPU-Z or Speccy or something? Which specific motherboard it is is just as important as knowing the socket. For example, it may be that you're limited to the 65W CPUs, but we'd only know from the motherboard. Or if it's a prebuilt, you may be artificially limited by the BIOS.

Mainboard from cpu-z

ECSI
model : GF8100vm-m5
chipset: nividia geforce 8200 rev A2
South bridge: nividia nforce 720a mcp rev A2
LPCIO: ITE 1T8718

max tdp 65.8w

Hope thats right info

With those specs just get a cheap second or third gen i5 dell from ebay and go ahead. You don't really have anything better that is worth the money on that board anymore.

If you don't have the budget for a new PC (which is why I'm guessing you're here) your motherboard can support AM3 95W processors. Probably the best on its support list is the Phenom II X4 960T. While definitely better than your current CPU it'll still be quite slow by today's standards though. There's a couple of South Korean sellers on eBay selling them used for $38.50.

Thanks so much guys for your help , yes with it been so old i did not know where to start at least now i can start searching on the ones you've given much appreciated

After searching theres alot of half decent motherboards second hand on ebay may as well go down that avenue
