Upgading i7 980

Hi guys, looking for a bit of help..
im looking at upgrading my system to something newer.
Currently running an i7 980 and am thinking of going to an i7 4790k or the new 5820k system.
I also want to go 780 sli so i would like to get the best possible performance.
Keep in mind this pc is purely for gaming.. do you think its worth the upgrade or would you have a recommendation on the best CPU i should use... thanks

You will also need to upgrade the motherboard so a newer CPU can fit in the socket.

yeah thanks, i was thinking of doing a new system... either 1150 or 2011-3, just trying to get an idea if its worth it.

absolutely not worth the upgrade for gaming. The number shows that in modern well threaded games going from what you have to a new 6 core with ht will yield very small fps boost. give that chip a little overclocking if you havn't already and wait for the skylake arc.
