i have i5 6400 with 16gb 2133mhz ram and i want to upgrade to i7 8600, should i buy new 16gb 3000mhz ram for 200$ or keep the slower speed ram?
Your choices are the 6600, 6700 or POSSIBLY a Kaby Lake CPU(i5 7600 or i7 7700) depending on your motherboard and if a BIOS update can allow a Kaby Lake CPU to be installed. Might allow a K CPU in there is the board is compatible.
I would go ahead and buy the 3000MHz RAM kit(2 modules). You can keep the other ones for troubleshooting.
The 8600 is an i5 not an i7. A Coffee Lake CPU is also going to require a new Z370 motherboard as they will not work on the older 1xx and 2xx series chipsets.
