I have an opportunity to upgrade my 3930 to a 3970 at a reasonable cost IMO. I know the 3930 is the bottom of the top CPU's and there wouldn't be much gain but just wondering if other's would do it? Perhaps even just for bragging rights...

I know it isn't a big gain but I figure it would cost me about $200 - 300 as a worst case scenario to swap CPU's with them. If I can get it down a bit more and close to the $200 mark or lower I will do it. Are you saying 0.9% gain for gaming? or 9.0% gain?

The main reason I wanna change is I have an opportunity and I just want to see how big I can go... I am kinda building a mission control.

At that price, while better than the difference between the two at new, I would say absolutely no.

The processor you have is more energy efficient, uses less power, and can be overclocked to negate any gains you would see by upgrading to the 3970X.
