[SOLVED] Upgrade advice needed: £400 budget

Hi All,

Looking to upgrade my son's PC. He mostly uses it for older games (TF2, Rimworld) but is keen on playing Cyberpunk.

Current build:
Intel core i5-7400
Motherboard is a ASUS H100M-R
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti (4GB)
8GB DDR4
1TB SATA Seagate HDD.
1080p Dell monitor (not sure of model but it was quite cheap 4 years ago)

Replacing the HDD with a SSD seems obvious? Should I just get a SATA 1TB SDD that I can then clone his existing drive to?
Anything else worth doing?

I would upgrade the ram to 16gb.
Does he have 1 stick of 8gb or 2 sticks of 4gb?
What powersupply does he have?
Cyberpunk is a very GPU intensive game, i would upgrade that also.
Given the GPU shortages and high pricing, what is the best GPU you can get for your money in your shops?
SSD wont make a difference in gaming.

A 240GB SATA SSD would set you back $30.
A 8gb stick would be around $30-$40.
So whats left for the GPU is $330.

Update: Power supplier is a Corsair 450.
RAM is 2 x 4GB, so I guess I'll need 2 x 8GB

Any brand / model of RAM I should look at?

He will need to buy a new ram kit.
Something like this
For the psu, i would go for this.
For the SSD, i would go for this.
The psu has very low wattage, which limits its GPU upgrades.
I would say grab the ram, ssd, a new powersupply, and save up money for something like a GTX 1660 SUPER.
Im assuming he is gaming at 1080p.
A SSD, RAM, will help with his multitasking and basic computer operating like opening files way way way faster, or just booting up the computer will be done in a matter of 10 seconds.
The new psu isnt necessary now, but he can buy it when he saves up money for that 1660 SUPER i mentioned.

Cyberpunk will be a struggle with that CPU and GPU, I'm afraid. 4c/4t gaming, in modern AAA titles, is pretty much dead, at this point. 6c/12t is the sweet spot, for gaming, right now. Graphics cards are about impossible to get, right now, or I would say get that first.
