Hi all,

Was looking to upgrade my system as it's running a little behind. I use my current system, originally built about 5 years ago and progressively upgraded bit by bit, mainly for gaming (AAA at ultra) and photo editing (photoshop/lightroom) but have been 3d modelling in blender and learning to use UE4 in my spare time for the last year or so too.

Current build:

Intel Core i5-3570K, 3.6GHz @ 3.8GHz (can't recall the exact OC) CPU
Cooler Master 212 with 2x fans
AsRock Z77 Extreme4 board
Corsair CXM500 PSU
G-Skill (4GBx2) Ripjaws X, DDR3 2133 RAM

Crucial M500, 120GB (OS) SSD
Samsung 850 EVO, 500GB (programs) SSD
Seagate Barracuda, 2TB 7200RPM (mass storage) HDD

GeForce GTX 1070 GPU

Clearly, some parts are far inferior to the newer components (CPU vs GPU, for example). I'd like to upgrade to the following build.

Suggested:

Intel - Core i7-8700K 3.7GHz 6-Core (maybe with a new aftermarket)
Gigabyte - Z370 AORUS Gaming 5 (rev. 1.0)
G.Skill - Trident Z RGB 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4

Questions:

1. Is this a good CPU at the price point? I'm assuming so as it seems very popular, can be OCd, and I think I'd benefit from the number of cores
2. Is it worth spending an extra £50 to get the DDR4-3600 over the 3000? I think dual-channel is fine as I'll have a big increase in performance going from the old RAM I'm using and the option to add an extra 16GB in the future is nice but probably will end up being redundant
3. Anyone know of clearance issues with this board, RAM and my existing cooler? Alternatively, a sub-£50 suggestion for a replacement would be appreciated
4. Any further suggestions/comments/considerations?

Thanks in advance guys!
Jamie

Solution
1. Yes, 8700k will be good choice, but a good alternative is Ryzen 2700X, better in 3d blender and UE4 despite losing to 8700k in gaming and photoshop/lightroom
2. Nope, 3000 is fine, 3200 is better if not too much more
3. you will need a new cooler for 8700k due to running hot with good ocing. H110iv2 or Cryorig NH-D15 (may have clearing issue) or R1 universal
4. I will pick a different MB, many GA has overheating issue
5. PSU is not reliable, I will get a new one for those new upgrade. Cosair TX550M is solid choice but EVGA G2/G3, Seasonic FOcus plus is better.
