Current system is:

  • Onkyo TX-NR646 receiver
  • Energy 5.1 Take Classic Home Theater System.

The center channel speaker has died, so I currently see these as options:

  • Replace the same center channel speaker (used on Ebay for ~$50)
  • Replace the center channel speaker with something else.
  • Get a new 5.1 system to replace the Energy 5.1 speakers (all six), price range, say, $300.
  • Replace everything with a soundbar system, the one that I have my eye on is the Polk Audio MagniFi Max SR Home Theater Sound Bar ($449)
Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Do you use the stereo for listening to music also? You may be disappointed with sound of a soundbar after using a high-fidelity surround system. You have a highly rated stereo receiver. I would buy a nice new center channel speaker like a Polk. That is where all the important talking and center sounds come from.

Thanks for the suggestions. Long story short, the center channel speaker is working fine. Not sure why it appeared dead for a while.
Anyway, will be trying out a Klipsch R-52C center speaker soon to see if it's worth the $150 compared to the Energy Take Classic center.
