[SOLVED] Upgrade after years (i5 4690k)

Need some help deciding what motherboard/CPU combo to get for an upgrade.

My PC decided not to boot up yesterday. At first I thought it was the PSU but I swapped out my old Corsair HX750 for a new Corsair RM750 and once I plugged in the 12v CPU pin it had the same problem. So I just decided to upgrade everything.

Current PC:

1. CPU: Intel Core i5 4690k
2. Motherboard: ASUS Sabretooth Z87
3. RAM: HyperX DDR3 16GB
4. Video Card: ASUS GTX970

I've been out of the loop in hardware for the past couple of years so I'd like some recommendations for an upgrade. I'm going to keep my old video card for some time. Don't think I'll be doing much gaming these days but I'd like something decent if I do decide to eventually upgrade my video card. Budget is probably around $500 for CPU/Motherboard.

Just add CPU cooler if you want one beyond stock and yours won't fit. Maybe consider a new M.2 NVMe SSD for your boot drive?

If you want to get more longevity, maybe consider a Ryzen 5 5600X, basically the best recommendation for gaming and an overall good CPU choice. If you want to do more work, maybe consider a 3700X for 8 cores.

If you want Intel, you can pick up an i5-10600 or 10600K for about $50 more. K does not include a CPU cooler, and you would need a Z490 motherboard for overclocking.

i went from a 4690k to a 3700x and it is night and day. a 3600 is about the same so you'll def not regret what is suggested above
