Hi to all,
VERY SORRY but I am not hardware savvy at all. I am a Mum who has a very discontented son!
We have a desktop with an AMD A10 5700 processor and AMD Radeon H7660D. Apparently, the graphics card is not capable of running my son's latest game.

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to upgrade the graphics card or add another one? I think it has PCI slots available (according to website) - but what am I looking for when I open the case?

Can anyone point me in the right direction (and keep it simple!)

Many thanks in advance.

Without knowing any more details (such as your upgrade budget, country, what power supply you have etc) I think the best thing to do is buy a gtx 750 or even better, a gtx 750ti. What game is he having trouble with?

You just plug it in to the PCIe x16 slot on the motherboard (it's the long slot with a funny locking clip at the top), take the monitor cable out of the motherboard socket and put it into the graphics card, and off you go. You would need to install drivers too, but that's easy.

Any questions feel free to ask

Thank you very much for your speedy response! He plays Skyrim (a lot) and GTA V (this is what he is having problems with) (He is almost 19 but has Aspergers - so I'm representing him!)

I am in the UK, not sure what PSU it is? How would I find that out? - I really don't want the thing to blow up!

I read somewhere that the connections might be different on this desktop for adding a dedicated graphics card - that's what had me concerned.

As regards budget - Obviously I'm looking for the cheapest option of upgrading this system so that he can play the games.

Thank you once again!

Ok, I'm guessing this is an off-the-shelf PC? That means the power supply probably won't be up for a power hungry card. Fortunately the gtx 750 and 750ti are very low power, and will work just fine on any PSU.

Looking at this list:

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/parts/video-card/#c=163,164&sort=a8&page=1

You can get a gtx 750 from £82, or a 750ti from £100. I don't think any other low power cards would be able to handle gta5 unfortunately. The ti version is obviously a little faster than the non ti and would be best if you can stretch to it, but either should do the job here and would be much, much stronger than the 7660d graphics

Getting a 750 Ti is great for a budget, but make sure you disable the APU's graphics when you install the card; if the 750 Ti doesn't override it anyways.
Also, form factor is important. Make sure that the GPU will fit the computer you are installing it into.

You need to check out the PSU while you have the case open - from the descriptive listing that's a zoostorm prebuilt ???
Some of those come with 250w psu's ,some come with a 400w.

If its a 250w then you're going to need to upgrade the PSU to even run a gtx 750 IMO.

Nah it'll be fine.

I forget, which brand of 750ti is the one with the 6 pin plug? One of them has it, is it evga?
