My current build:
CPU: i7 4770k 4.2 GHz overclock (might increase it).
GPU: GTX 780
RAM: 1866mHz DDR3 16GB RAM.
Motherboard: Asrock z87 Pro4.

I plan on getting a GTX 1080, so I am worried about the CPU or RAM bottleneck-ing performance overall. Also, are there going to be compatibility issues? I checked with a 980 ti using a website that checks compatibility and it was okay. I am mostly concerned with RAM because of GDDR5X.

Solution
System RAM has no bearing on a GPU in terms of compatibility so no need to concern yourself on that front. Whether your CPU becomes a bottleneck is entirely dependant on what game, video settings and screen resolution you run (however its more GPU dependant than anything else), but given you have a top end last gen. Intel CPU I would not be concerned unless you plan to run 4K resolution and even then a GTX1080 'should' cope.
