According to your motherboard's specifications page the maximum allotted capacity for DDR3 slots is 8GB so you should populate both of the DDR3 slots with 4GB sticks of ram rated to run at a maximum of 1600MHz. In your current state you should make sure your motherboard's BIOS is up to date before you purchase the new ram.

You can take a look at these kits but in retrospect, I'd like to ask you of your full system;s specs inclusive of the OS you're running on currently.

Narrowing it down to these two:

ok so ddr3 or ddr2 can be used with that chip it seems [just not together at the same time ]

Memory controller The number of controllers: 1
Memory channels: 2
Channel width (bits): 72
Supported memory: DDR2-1066, DDR3-1333
DIMMs per channel: up to 2
Maximum memory bandwidth (GB/s): 21.3

well my good old saying is if AMD its 1333 with that older chip I probably would stick to that maybe 1600 if it can get there stable ? if not it should do well if default to 1333 so you not out

I have that board myself as well with a am2 5400 ddr2 800 in it for a vista rig

may as well give it a go theres 2 ways it can go , it will work as you expect or it don't . what not ?? get 2 4gb sticks and stick them in and see

Will do mate. I'll go for 2 ddr3 4GB ram of 1333 Mhz .

I'll give it a try and post the results hopefully next week...

well if you get 1600 at the same price go for it at worse you would just need to downclock it but even if it just ends up at defaulting to 1333 no big deal 1600-- is just better binned ic 's so even if all you get is 1333 out of then there still so called better memory ic's used so they can guarantee that 1600 so it maybe worth the risk to get 1600 memory

Thank you for selecting my post as the Best Answer but before you overclock it's a good idea to pass on your existing system specs. Often times the system's weakest point can be anything in your components. Overclocking is more of a package instead of a simple keying in factor. If your PSU burps too hard it can and will take out your entire system and if your cooling is inadequate then you risk damaging your CPU/motherboard over the long term.

Did you purchase the new DDR3 kit?
