Hey Guys!

Here are my computer specs:
Dell XPS 8700
Original Motherboard
CPU: Intel Core i5-4430 @ 3GHz Quad core 3001Mhz
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X series (2 x 8GB) 240pin DDR3 SDRAM 1600
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti

I was looking to upgrade my CPU and motherboard and keep within budge of under $300.

plus this mobo: B450-F Gaming Motherboard (ATX)

But would love to hear some thoughts on what I should look for or do you have your eyes on any compatible CPU+Mobo combos that you think would pair well with my system or be a good budget upgrade for me?

Might upgrade my GPU a few years down the road.

if i were you i would upgrade the GPU emmediatelly.
Honestly,it is the weakest part in your system.
The bext gpu for i5 4430 is either gtx 1060 or gtx 1070.
They should be more than 300$

Upgrade to i7-4770/4790, or i7-4770k/4790k if motherboard with z87 chipset, that allows overclocking. Invest in better cooling if it's stock. Fill case with fans. Add gtx 1060/1070 level card, and your overall performance should increase highly. Sell old parts... Buy ssd if don't have yet.

If you wanna new system I think ryzen 5 3600x would be choice for price performance.

You'd need to replace the memory as the new platforms use DDR4 so that would exceed your budget.

Your budget can however allow you to get the i3-10100 which is 4C/8T and performs close to the i7-7700.

Although for gaming performance you might be better off upgrading the GPU first but it also depends on the PSU in the current system. If the PSU is older or a lower quality then you can do the CPU/MB/RAM upgrade without replacing it but if you want a new GPU then it might need to be replaced and the prices are quite high nowadays. Nearly 1/3 of your budget...

If your fine with the graphic settings of the games you play then you can hold off on upgrading the 750 ti but if not then upgrade that first and possibly the PSU.

If memory serves me correctly I think it comes with a 460W PSU but you may want to double check that.

Edit: Make sure your case supports MATX boards.

If I do buy that motherboard is it compatible if I upgrade my GPU down the road to a 1060 or 1070?

Yes, that motherboard will be fine with any modern GPU so no worries. As for a GPU upgrade the 10XX series is a bit dated unless going used but with Nvidia Ampere coming out soon that may be something to consider getting instead especially if you want to utilize Ray Tracing.

I think I may go with a new PSU as well. Any tips on those? Should I shoot for 600-650 ish? I'd like to try to stay under $100.

Pricing is still a bit high but 650W would be plenty for a higher end GPU. I see the Corsair CXM 650W for just under $100 currently.

Thanks for all the help on part picking. It helped a ton. I'm in the middle of putting together my PC and having fun learning and figuring things out. Currently looking into best approach for my 4 fans, since the mobo has 2 fan headers. Case I bought came with two 3-pin fans and I bought 2 4-pin arctic fans. I'm thinking just a couple splitters would work but really have no clue what kind of fan control that would give me.
