Hi, guys.

I actually have a 5600x 32g ram 3600 and a 6700xt 12gb vram. After premieres's last upgrade, I felt it a bit heavier to my system. What upgrade would you guys choose?

1. Upgrade CPU to 9900x and keep the 6700xt;
2. Upgrade both CPU to 5900xt and GPU to a 7900xtx;
Or still:
3. Keep the CPU and upgrade GPU to the 7900xtx.

I just use it for premiere, editing in 4k slog 8bit and for obs in lives. Sometimes, gaming in 4k.

Thanks!

Please list the specs to your build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.

For the sake of relevance, we also need users to stylize their post with info asked of in this thread;
including your budget, your location(since not everyone is located in USA which this site's traffic is mostly from) and your preferred site for purchase.

Upgrade CPU to 9900x and keep the 6700xt;
You will need to change the motherboard and ram in order to drop in a Ryzen 9 9900X into the build.

I just use it for premiere, editing in 4k slog 8bit and for obs in lives. Sometimes, gaming in 4k.
You might want to mention the games you tax the system with besides the apps.

My system:

Ryzen 5600X
My cooler system died. I am gonna switch to a custom watercooler.
MOBO B550 Plus Asus
4x8 3600 ddr4 RAM
3x SSD (one of them 7500x7000)
6700XT
XPG Core reactor 850
Chassis: Sharkoon Pure Steel
Windonws 11
Samsung UR550 (4k, 60hz) and Samsung Odissey (144, FullHD)
PSU age 2 years. Don't know my BIOS version.

It's a goos system. So, i think if changing to a Ryzen 5900X may be a good way, alied to a 7900xtx.

If i upgrade the MOBO, i should go to an ASUS b650 TUF and a 2x32gb 5600 RAM, and keep the RX 6700XT.

I usually play stuf like Valorant, in 4k, Assassins Creed etc, also in 4k. And it's, now, ok to me. I am thinking more on the editing than the gamming stuff,

I have budget for both upgrades. As I live in Brazil, it's not cheap. People keep telling me that it's not worth upgrade from teh 5600X to the 5900X. In Premiere, both, CPU and GPU are important. My goal is a smooth experience with the timeline, more than rendering.

So, I am willing to upgrade the CPU to the 9900X and lately the GPU.

What would you guys do?

Thanks a bunch.

First of all, I am no expert on Premiere pro.
But, the folks at Puget systems are.
Here are their thoughts on hardware for premiere pro:
If you read through it, the recommendations are somewhat different from what you are thinking.
For example, the very top processors included threadripper processors and i9-14900K but not the newest 5900x or 9900X.
The Quick sync capability of non F suffix processors are of value.
I do not have the date of this article, it might be a few years old.
It is not clear, but it looks like Nvidia cards do better.

Do you have a budget?

Your case is seriously deficient in airflow.
That is something I do know something about.

Two 120mm intake fans is not going to seriously cool anything.
liquid cooling or air cooling needs airflow
A 240 aio or custom loop has about the same cooling capability as a good twin tower air cooler.

I suspect you will want much more than 32gb of ram.

I read this article, already. It's excellent, but it's also, unfortunately, very old. Ryzen 9900X would do a great job: I have no heavy editing works. Maybe go for the processor upgrade and later the video card -- since RX 6700XT is a good card.
Now, about the case, this is my setup (now without the water cooler who died): the inferior fans brigs the cool air in, the lateral ones I used to install the 240 water cooler and the one over the MOBO is also throwing out the hot air. You think i should change it?

My vote would normally be 5700x3d, for gaming, but with your other tasks, the 5900xt makes sense, along with the 7900xtx, and is the easiest option. Another option might be to reuse your ram, and snag up a 12th gen i7 and DDR4 Z690/Z790 board. I am still not convinced that Intel's fixes for 13th and 14th gen have fixed the issues with them.
