I would look at using this utility to really hamper down on all the random and useless services that open on startup. By the numbers on the user benchmark it would seem that the GPU is either getting really hot quick because of dust and buildup or it is deprived of fresh air. How does your case look for airflow? You can also do a clean boot before doing a userbenchmark test. This gets rid of all the useless stuff, and I mean all of it.

I hadn't cleaned out my case or filters for a while, so I did that last night. The GPU does extend right to the back of the case, so that probably affects airflow.

If I buy something like this:
https://www.newegg.ca/msi-b450m-bazooka-max-wifi/p/1HD-002J-00197?Item=1HD-002J-00197
And this:

Should I be able to just drop it in, with the other parts listed above?

  • SSD: ADATA Xpg SX8000 NVMe M.2 2280 MLC 3D Nand 256GB PCIe SSD 2000/600 Mbps R/W
  • Case: Fractal Design Define Mini C mATX Case - Black
  • PSU: Corsair CX Series CX550M 550W ATX 12V 80 Plus Bronze Certified Modular Power Supply
  • CPU: INTEL® CORE™ I5-7500 Processor 6M Cache 4 Cores 3.4GHZ Up to 3.8GHZ FC-LGA14C
  • RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws V 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4-2133 CL15-15-15-35 1.2V 288PIN Dual Channel Memory Kit
  • GPU: Gigabyte 1660 Ti
You would also need to upgrade the ram.

The OP has made up their mind that they need a bigger engine for the car.

Telling them that if they remove the 300 pounds of junk from the trunk they might not need a bigger engine is not what they want to hear.
