Upgrade CPU or GPU first?

Hello,

I have an Intel i7-3820 @3.6GHz processor with an EVGA GeForce GTX 650 Ti 2GB graphics card.

I am considering whether I should upgrade my processor first or my graphics card first.

Processor upgrade choice: Intel i7-6770k
Graphics upgrade choice: EVGA GeForce GTX 980 SC ACX 2.0 or EVGA GeForce GTX 980 FTW ACX 2.0

I would get the GPU first, that CPU is still decent.

The 3820 is still a good gaming CPU your weakest link is definitely the slow gpu.

Since your CPU won't bottleneck a newer card, I would upgrade that first. To go to a 6700k, you're looking at having to upgrade the CPU, board and possibly RAM.

Get a new gpu big time, your cpu is still fully competent for just about all gpu's currently available.

The good news is that you won't have to spend much on the gpu to see a huge improvement. Even a current 200 video card should be a night and day experience for you.
