Upgrade CPU or GPU

I think it's time to upgrade my gaming PC but I'm not sure what I need to upgrade, maybe you guys can enlighten me. I am currently using a AMD FX6300 3.5GHz and a GTX 660 2GB, the games I play are developing much more faster than I expected, the constant 20-30 FPS isn't going to cut it. My friend has a i5-4690 and gets twice as more frames than me plus we have the same GPU, I calculated the prices of an i5 and a half decent motherboard all costing around £250-£280.

My PC struggles playing games such as Arma 2, 3, and DayZ (games I mostly play). But I'm not sure if it's worth purchasing a new CPU when I could get graphics card costing around £300. So if you had a similar rig like me, what would you upgrade first, the CPU or the GPU? Just to note I've looked at some benchmarks with certain CPUs and GPUs and it seems that Arma is a CPU intensive game (meaning it uses more than any other component).

CPU & Motherbd is the way to go. You've already seen that your GPU is being bottlenecked by them because your friend with the same gpu gets twice the fps. A newer gpu will also be similarly bottlenecked and provide almost no benefit with the current cpu.
