Upgrade CPU or GPU?

Okay so my current system consists of an AMD FX 6300 @ stock speeds, as I do not have an aftermarket cooler, and an NVIDIA GTX 660. Would it be better to upgrade to Intel for CPU or upgrade the GPU to a 970 or equal card? I have noticed that Intel exceeds AMD when playing Arma 3 and other games so I wasn't sure if that extra fps boost in the CPU was worth it over buying a better GPU overall.

Solution
I personally would upgrade the Video Card, and wait till next year or the beginning of 2017 to upgrade the Motherboard, CPU and RAM.

Your GPU is probably the bottleneck in this case. However, your CPU doesn't help matters. I recommend getting an aftermarket cooler and overclocking your CPU. If you see a decent improvement in fps, then you know that it's your CPU that needs upgrading. If the improvement in fps is nonexistent, then upgrade to an 970 or equivalent.

The 970 would give you way more of an improvement, but you'll need to pick up an aftermarket cooler for you CPU and OC it quite a bit to not bottleneck a 970. An OCd FX6300 is fine with a 970 but at stock speeds you'll get bottleneck.

Id do it like this: 970 + CPU cooler and OC.
And then just upgrade your CPU when you feel like you need it or can afford it.

OCd 6300 with a 970 will last you quite a while i guess. :)

As others suggest change your gpu. 6300 is still decent cpu and paired with good gpu will last for some time. If there is need you can always oc it with good aftermarket cooler.

Best luck!
