Upgrade cpu or gpu

I like to use my pc to watch tv shows/movies on my regular tv. I had a 32 inch tv and everything worked fine. Ran 720p and 1080p with no problems. I recently got a lg 43 inch tv and now videos start to lag and play funny. Do I need to upgrade my gpu, cpu, or both? I was thinking about getting the fx 8350 if its the cpu.

Right now I have:
Gpu: msi r9 280x
Cpu: amd a10 5800k
Mobo: A78M-E35

CPU, but you can't put an 8350 on that motherboard. It's slow anyways you wouldn't want to. I'd suggest getting an R5 1500x and b350 mobo or trying to find a used i5 and motherboard if you don't want to buy new RAM.

Indeed, and if you can even opt out for the 1600X, it's a mighty beast.

With not gaming there is no reason to step up to the 1600x it is $70 more for a frame here and there. The 1600 is the sweet spot for price per core/thread
