Currently I have 2x 4 GB DDR3-1600 DDR3 Kingston SDRAM

if I buy one more 4 GB, so I would have 3 of them instead of 2 will my RAM become significantly slower?

It would be the same type, however as it would be 3 of them not 2, I expect DUAL mode will not work. Or maybe it will work with 8 gb, and 4 gb will get somewhat slower? Can someone tell me how does this works? Is it worth the upgrade or not?

If your motherboard have dual channel then it wont work with 3 sticks(all sticks will be working in single channel) (There are few motherboards with triple channel).
Some operations might get slower without dual channel(benchmarks shows about 3% slower) but you wont feel the difference. When it comes to gaming and stuff that "eats" RAM extra 4GB will work for you quite nice 😀
