I am looking into upgrading my Dell Dimension 8250 in order to get out of the RDRAM trap.

If I change the MOBO and/or processor, etc., how will that affect my existing Windows installation. Presume I will need to reinstall? And if so, will my the Dell system CD that came with my computer reinstall OK on the new system? Or will I have to add the purchase of an OS to the cost of my upgrade?

It would be best to reinstall after this upgrade, although you probably could make it work with a repair. Since the Windows disk from Dell is OEM, and you're changing the board, you are supposed to purchase a new copy of Windows. Your disk from Dell will probably work, but you would be violating the licensing agreement. So I guess that decision is one for your conscience.
