Looking to "build" a pc from my existing lenovo tower. i need something able to edit my gopro videos, use my midi controller for music, and general use. specs are here: https://www.cnet.com/products/lenovo-thinkcentre-m58-7244-p-e6600-3-06-ghz-monitor-none-series/specs/

what are my options? as ive gathered i can have up to 16gb ram, and any processor with lga775 socket. are these statements true? is there anything else to remember? recommended processor? should i even bother?

im trying to save money here by using my existing case, motherboard, power supply, etc

was thinking about this processor but seems pricey:

The information on Lenovo's site suggests the Core 2 Extremes aren't supported. Additionally, the chipset it uses isn't compatible with it according to Intel.

RAM will depend on the motherboard and the OS you are using. Lenovo's site mentions "512MB, 1GB or 2GB memory modules" which would require 8 slots for 16GB of RAM. This would seem to conflict with the information on Cnet (4 slots).

See if you can verify your motherboard model (use something like HWiNFO) and cross reference with this:

Or another site with information about the specific motherboard model.
