Upgrade for $600

I want to upgrade my cpu and motherboard for about 600, and im not sure what to get. I don't think i need a new graphics card yet but if i do ill just get another 8800 and go sli.

CPU: 5400+ @ 2.8 GHz
Motherboard: MSI K9A Platinum
Graphics card: BFG 8800gts 512mb
RAM: 2gigs ddr2 667
stock cpu fan and windows XP.
550 watt psu

I'm going to use this for gaming and I don't really know what CPU or motherboard to get, so if you could help me out that would be great.

If you want to keep the option of SLI then i would get something like

790i mobo
e8500-e8400

Ram will still be sufficient for this unless you want to buy more to make it 4gb which budget permitting would be a good idea.

That's not much of an upgrade. Budget Intel and SLI don't go well together. I'd say keep saving up and wait for Phenom II or i7 (or possibly i5).

The only thing that I would upgrade now is the ram. I would get 4gigs of faster ram and you will notice the performance increase. I recommend http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145034 its what I use in my PC.

230 bucks for the 2.8ghz one, keep in mind that its overclockable to 4
