Hello!

When playing Destiny 2, the FPS hovers between 45 and 60, and this doesn’t change that much when reducing the settings. What I would ideally like is a consistent 60 FPS. This is what I’m using:

FX-6300 Overclocked to 4.5 MHz
8gb ddr3 1600 ram
Gigabyte 970 motherboard (970a-udp)
Radeon R9 380 4gb

What would I need to achieve 60 FPS? Is it a cpu or graphics card issue? Apologies in advance if these are daft questions. This is the first time I’ve used a pc for gaming, and am looking forward to hopefully playing D2 and the back catalogue of PC Games I’ve missed at 60 FPS.

Thanks in advance!

Solution
Ebay. i5 6th gen. 6400, 6500 6600 with a 170 board are selling cheap. 8gb of DDR4
have a look at benchmarks for cards. you might find a 2nd hand 980 for good price too.
recommend a 1060 minimum if buying new.

Thanks for the response, and yes, I’m running at 1080p. So I guess I will need a new motherboard too. What would you recommend? I have no interest in 4K now or in the near future. Priorities are 60 frames with medium to high settings. Thanks in advance.

Thanks, that’s really helpful. One more question: if I got the cpu and motherboard first, could I use my existing GPU and ram until I buy the 980 and ddr4 ram?

Yes for the GPU.
Some 6th gen boards were compatable with DDR3 ram (due to DDR4 being new at the time) but it was 1.25v DDR3 only. Id say you have 1.5v. If so, no go. Look at ram and see what it is. If its 1.25 search for a few compatable boards and seek those on ebay.
There are no boards that take DDR3 & DDR4.

Thanks so much for answering my questions. So save up for a cpu, motherboard and ram first, and then a gpu.
