upgrade for i7-4930K cpu?

The 4960X was top of the IvyBridge-E product stack.

But realistically, you net 200MHz clock increases, and a few MB of cache.

Given those still sell for a couple of hundred dollars, used:

It's probably not too wise to upgrade.


Why do you feel you need to upgrade the current CPU?
 
First off... why would you need to? You have a great CPU as it is. You'll be stuck with it as well as it looks like the only upgrade for you would be the i7-4960K which is nothing more than a step up in clock speed... which you could easily do with a little simple overclocking.

Anything more and you'll be looking at a total platform replacement.
