Hi

My current spec is...

MoBo: Gigabyte Z68AP-D3
CPU: i5 2500k
RAM: 8GB DDR3
GPU: Sapphire R9 280 3GB

I know my GPU isn't up to scratch for VR, but could I get away with just replacing the graphics card (and getting a Vive) or would I need to build a new system altogether?

I know I don't have enough USB slots for the Rift so that would pretty much need a new system.

Any advice much appreciated!

Thanks

Overclock your CPU and you're probably gonna want a new GPU. I'd recommend a 290/X if your budget is a little low (and you can buy used if you're comfortable and the card is in good condition to save a bunch of cash), or a 390/X. If you have a low wattage/quality PSU I would recommend a 970.

All you would need to upgrade would be your Gpu, I have a GTX 970 heavily over clocked and it scored around high to very high fidelity on the steam vr test. Overall the GTX 970 is a great choice and you won't be disappointed.
