Upgrade = Fresh?

This might sound like a stupid question and i apologize if it has been answered somewhere else already, but....



With the "Upgrade offer"

Say i have xp32bit, and i get the upgrade offer... does it do a fresh install of win7 (and just check to make sure i have an XP key?) or is it more of like a... rollover... i guess...

Will it keep all the old data and drivers (chipset, GPU, etc), or is it fresh?

It "tries" to migrate everything it can from XP to Win7, it won't just wipe the disk and install everything from scratch.

But this also means that if you later want to reinstall you Win7, you might have to install XP first then upgrade unless the same Vista workaround still works.

merrr..... i was really looking for a fresh, clean, happy start with win7, not some roll over.

XP to Windows 7 will require a fresh install.

Click the "Forums" tab above, top of the page. Scroll down to the Windows 7 area.
Look around in there you will find a plethera of Windows 7 info.

If microsoft wants to support an upgrade from a 32 bit os to 64 bit windows-7, they need to support some sort of a clean install procedure like they did with vista.
I think they will or there will be lots of unhappy customers.
