im looking for a siutable upgrade for my gpu. at the moment my system is this:
AMD Athlon 2 (3.1Ghz x4 core)
Gigabyte MA77OT-UD3
Ati Radeon 5770
PSU 700w
any suggestions?

You are right. But seriously speaking the power supply should be solid in order to do demanding tasks such as playing games. As fpr the cards IP suggest radeon r7 265 or radeon r9 270x if you want to spend that extra 50$.

The power supply is evo labs 700w modular and the only reason im using it is because my own broke down and due to quite tight financial situation a while ago i couldnt afford getting an other one and a friend of mine gave me one of his. Thank you for your interest about my system, im not a hardware guy and didnt even though that too good psu may cause any problems but for now it runs well. If u have any other suggestions about my build id be pleased if u let me know what else i could upgrade to make it better. Thanks every one

I agree but instead of 270x try 270. Just to be more sure that nothing happens. Don't take me wrong u have a goodenough psu.
I suggest buying 270 just cuz its less power hungry than the 270x. There is nothing else you can upgrade except the graphics and power supply. Are you gonna buy a new pc after 3-4 years cuz that processor is kinda old and it wont work for games that will come out in the near future.

I would want to make sure the PSU of suitable quality before recommending a GPU purchase. I understand respecting someone's question, but many people undervalue the importance of a quality PSU (I learned the hard ways years ago). It is usually a worthwhile thing to bring up.

The 270x is the best GPU for ~$200 atm though, I totally agree there.

Exactly my point.

He would want to make sure the rest of his system isn't going to bottleneck or be bottlenecked by the new card.
