Hi.

I am out of the U.S. for 9 months. Left my Dell Latitude using windows 8.0. at home. Will be returning in December 2105.

Question:
When I return, Do I check and apply updates to all my 8.0 releases first, or can I just skip and upgrade to windows 10?

TC.

Microsoft is making Windows 10 available as free upgrade for qualified Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows Phone 8.1 devices. It will be available starting July 29, 2015; people can reserve their free upgrade today.

Based on the omission of 8.0 from the quote (and all of the quotes I've seen on the subject to date) it appears you may need to do a two-step upgrade: 8.0>8.1>10

To upgrade to 8.1 is always free, and you must make sure all updates are done first. When the 8.1 upgrade is done the most recent version of 8.1 is pulled from the server, so there should be few remaining updates to 8.1.

Assuming you mean 2015 and not 2105....yes, run all the updates first.
