Upgrade from 970 to 1080 worth or better to stay with 970 for now?

Hello guys, My setup is,
R5-1600x
Strix GTX 970
FlareX 32GB RAM

All I need is 60 fps at high to very high (not ultra) @2560x1080 res. Now some newer games are struggling at high setting to maintain 60 fps. I am thinking if it will be a good decision to go for GTX1080 (since 1080ti is not that worth compared to its value). But I am also thinking for nvidia volta release which as per some speculation may take 1.5 yrs to release max. So what you guys think? pls put some comments. Thanks for reading.

GTX 970 is still a very capable card but not at 2K resolution. I would just buy a 1070 or 1070ti for that resolution now and maybe skip volta. Its too far away man. However, if you have games that do run well on 970 at 2k and if they will be able to keep you busy till Volta, then why not, do wait. :)

Thanks. I do have read some articles where they have mentioned that unless AMD is making something more powerful than 1080 then it makes no seance to nvidia to launch volta. So as per speculation it may be 2019 or something for volta release.

That's one theory. Another is Nvidia may keep to original timelines and release cards that significantly dominate at all price levels which would result in destroying AMD's market share even more. It's a cut throat business and if you can beat up your competition you do it.

All speculation and no one but senior Nvidia management really know the real timeline.

Though I have not gone through this type of thought till date but seems promising to me. So simply I can not decide when to switch. So it will be better to stick with GTX970 as long as I can
