Upgrade from a 7870

Hello,

I was wondering if I should either get the AMD r9 290 4gb (stock cooler, I do not want to wait anymore, also the new coolers cost too much)

OR

The GTX 770 4gb.

I have heard the r9 290 is very loud and hot, but i have good cooling in general. Is the r9 290 worth the risk?

Its not as loud as they make out, my test rig has 2x R 290's in it , Yes they are hot, but they are hardly loud, can barely hear them over the 3 other fans in the case and they work great.

With the latest drivers the R9 290 don't run unacceptably hot or loud anymore. I guess go with that as the 770 cannot match up.

Usually perople compare r9 290 with gtx 780, even where r9 290 wins. So r9 290 will be much better for you than gtx 770

Im desperately holding off from buying a new GPU until the R9 290 Twinfozer IV comes out. My hope is once these new non reference cards launch, prices will start to drop due to the increased choice, competition and increased stock. Now just to keep those bloody litecoin miners busy with something else.......
