Okay, so I was digging through ARK one day, and I found the socket type of the Intel Core i5 460M and I decided to look into possible upgrades for my two year old laptop, and what did I find with a PGA988? Intel i5 2540M.

I realize that laptops are fairly proprietary but I was wondering, since they share the same socket, and same 35W TDP, if I could change the 460M for the 2540?

Maybe with a bios update? Or change the bios accordingly to support the new architecture?

Very very likely no as they use different chipsets and will require certain drivers to run. The manufacturer probably does not have a bios for the new cpu.
