Upgrade from a NVIDIA GeForce 6200

I have an open PCIe x16 slot on my PC and would like to upgrade from the PCI slot Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce 6200. I only have a 250 watt power supply so any suggestions besides a new power supply.

We will need to know your full config, if your cpu is as old as your graphics card than it will probably bottleneck even some entry level graphic cards.

Unfortunately your CPU is going to bottleneck even some entry level cards, it is a single core with 2.2Ghz, i wouldn't go for anything better than a 6770, even there it will probably bottleneck it.

The better choice in my opinion is to start saving some money, you don't need a lot, 350$ and you can jump to a better socket.

Anyway... how much are you willing to spend?

he means to get a whole new platform which would use a totally different generation of cpu's. The system you have now is very old and getting a new video card would not help you as your cpu is not powerful enough to handle one, your power supply is also too low to handle pretty much any modern dedicated graphics card.

He didn't say jump to another slot, he said another socket. The socket is the place where you put in the CPU (Processor) in the motherboard. There are different socket types, and certain CPUs can fit into them.

You need to upgrade your processor (CPU). Your Sparta CPU runs on an AM2 socket. They don't make AM2 CPUs anymore. So you'll need to get a new motherboard. The new motherboards mostly use DDR3 memory (RAM), which means you'll need to upgrade from your old DDR2.

As you can see, anytime you need to upgrade the motherboard from 1 generation to another, you pretty much have to upgrade the CPU and RAM. That's what the previous poster meant when they said you need a new platform.

If you're looking for inexpensive options here's a small list.
Processor (CPU) - Athlon II X3 $75
Motherboard (Mobo) - Gigabyte AM3+ MicroATX - $65
Memory (RAM) - 8GB DDR3 1333mhz - $28

That's $170 to upgrade the platform. You've got a 250W PSU, you'll need better.
