Upgrade from Gigabyte R9 280X to a 1060? Would it be worth the investment?

Hi guys, struggling with FPS in a few games now such as battlegrounds. Would you recommend updating my GPU for this model?

Thanks,

Solution
Then go with the 1070 if you play fast graphics games like Battlefront or cs:go or gta:v, the difference between 60Hz and 144Hz is considerable and while the 1060 can do it sufficiently, you'll end up in the same boat you are in now much sooner than wanted.

As far as bogging down that i5, that's not on the gpu, but upto the game itself. Invariably you are going to start running into games that take advantage of multiple threads, like the 8 threads offered by an i7 or Ryzen cpu. This is where games are heading more and more, so what might hurt is you have an i5, not that it's slightly older. I already see a difference in my i5-3570k and i7-3770K and they are intrinsically the same cpu, one with HT. But it'll be several years yet before...

depends on your complete system specs, the 1070 requires a beefy cpu to handle

I have a i5 4670k with a H75 cooler attached to overclock for the future, if this will bottleneck my GPU i may as well stay with a 1060 for a few years then upgrade at a later date for a completely new system?

Or if it is good enough what would you go for?

what resolution do you play at?

at 1080p just get the 1060

Im thinking of upgrading to a 144hz monitor soon

Solution

Depends on your monitor. The 1070 will go to waste on 1080p. Best to hold the 100 pounds for an upgrade later when games need more performance.

Thanks, I think im going to hold off until VEGA and hope for some serious price drops haha! Thanks guys!
