Hello there,

I have a GTX 560 ti and i'm thinking about an upgrade.

I'm thinking about a R9 270x or a R9 280x. I'm open to suggestion though.

But im not sure if a $300+ is worth it. Im not an "ULTRA settings" guy, i don't care to play with the TOP graphics available. But i do like to run things smoothly. I'm also a console player, so... at some point will get a PS4.

Do you guys think a R9 270x will be a good upgrade or to make it worth i have to go higher ?

My specs:

AMD FX 8320
8gb ram
Asus M5A970 R2.0

Solution
Well the 760 should run things smoothly on High at good FPS, and on Ultra (maybe with some lowered settings) at a lower FPS.

R9 280x will handle Ultra at good FPS.

PLEASE look here: http://www.kotaku.com.au/2013/11/battlefield-4-benchmarked-is-your-pc-up-to-the-task/

Do note that it's running at MSAA x4 which is very taxing, if you run it at x2 or none at all - you'll see a significant boost in FPS.

- What is a good FPS, that varies from person to person and what they prefer. I'd like 50+. According to the previous benchmark in the older post, the GTX 760 just hits 50 at 1080p, no MSAA
** Do take benchmarks with a pinch of salt

I'd look at these 3, more headache!
1) GTX 760
2) HD 7950
3) R9 270x, essentially is a HD 7850

-) R9 280x, by all means the best card on this block. Best performance for the money, and comes along with 3GB. Though if you game at 1920*1080 then 2GB is enough. I would suggest this but if you're not an Ultra guy. Then I say skip this, save your money for your PS4.

>>> Given the benchmarks below, I'd consider what you what for your money.
>>> If money wasn't an issue - the ASUS R9 280x just cause. Save more money, MSI/ASUS GTX 760 2GB.

i guess the R9 270x is a HD7870 not a HD7850.

Yeah i was also looking at the GTX 760, but here where i live it is $50~$70 more expensive than the R9 270x. It's a strong card though and i guess it comes with 2 or 3 new games, am i right ?

Now there is this mantle API that is supposed to get AMD cards a better performance....

Well, i got a bump in my budget.

Now i have two options a GTX 760 or a R9 280x.

Does the R9 280x is that better, at 1080p to justfy a $151 price difference ? (thats the difference around here)

wow, i thought the GTX 760 would run battelfield better than the R9 270x. Thats weird. GTX 760 its supposed to be a better card, ain't it ?

Now im reconsidering. Maybe the GTX 760 is not that better after all.

Id like to, but i reconsidered. The 280x does not worth $151 more than a GTX 760 or a 270x.

I'm almost sure to buy a GTX 760, it seems very capable and it comes with 2 free games.

The only thing holding me back are those BF4 benchmarks. Maybe is due driver issues that the GTX 760 is outperformed by the 270x. It dosen't make any sense, every other benchmark comparing them both gives the higher marks to the GTX 760.

The 760 or 270 isnt worth it in a uograde to me. If you want 60+ fps on high/ultra you want the 280x or 770. I play on my gtx560ti classified 1280mb ram edition on high with no AA and I get 60+ fps on all 32 man servers. I honestly believe the 760 or 270 wont be worth the money. The 760 is just a rebadged 660.

But we can't run BF4 past medium and some mmos i play get pretty bad as well.

Cheking benchmarks, the upgrade seems worth it, imo.

Sure a 280x would be the best upgrade, but for me the cost x benefit is not worth it. I would have to pay $518 for a 280x, where the GTX 760 and 270x are $360+-

I live in Brazil hehe, got to deal with such prices. Ouch, indeed.

I can't OC my card, its a PNY stock model, only 1 fan and it gets hot already, 82~85ºC running games. In Rio the average temperature is 23ºC, summer is comming so it can get 40ºC easily.

I tried to run BF4 and couldn't get that performance ! Did they patched it for better optimization ? or did Nvidia released new drivers ?

Windows 8 and optimised in the same sentence, thats wierd !

I was refering to these benchmarks here> http://www.bf4blog.com/battlefield-4-retail-gpu-cpu-benchmarks/

i'd run bf4 with a 20fps difference if i upgrade at ultra settings.

Its seems a worthy upgrade to me.
