Hello. I am planning to upgrade from the 960 to one of the 1000 series cards, preferably the 1080, simply because value and i want it to last a few years.

I have questions about size, watt consumption and the overall worth of it for the gtx 1080 and what better alternatives or models are out there, which would work properly with my measly ~600 watt PSU and if it can actually fit into my, well, PC box. As the gtx 960 fits properly in length, but there isn't that much free space in the width and height department.

Currently i am away, and am planning to buy it before i get home so it would arrive once i get back, so i cant give many details. I was thinking about the AERO or the ROG Strix models, as they seem best price wise.

Thanks, in advance.

if you are strangling with size, aero version is smaller. but offer less cooling performance.
strix has a bigger cooler, and would in theory give you better cooling, and hence better performance.

i think strix has better pcb layout / components and cooling, and that's the one i would consider if dimension is not a big issue.

also it's worth mentioning.
i would suggest you get a decent 550w~600w unit, you should at least consider a bronze rated like the corsair cx550m or seasonic S12II

or if you can, go for a 700w+ gold rated psu, from branded name like seasonic/corsair/evga .., many of them carries a 10 year warranty. and should last you a few builds.

The thing, im not planning on using the card so much as other than 1080p gaming, just to boost framerates on terribly optimized games. Maybe. Ill upgrade as a whole in the future.

You're saying the aero is smaller, but from what ive seen in videos, its almost the same size as the strix. Basically, if im short on size i should get the aero, right?
