Hi there folks.

My current setup
i7-4790K
32GB RAM
SSD yadayda
and GTX970

I would like to upgrade my graphics card and not break a bank in the process. What would you recommend that would make a real difference? I am currently operating in 1440p resolution mostly, no 4K interest so far.
  1. Should I go Nvidia or AMD route?
  2. What model to choose?
Questions, so many questions...

Solution
No one buys a 1660TI anymore since the 1660 Super have been released and you will pay a fortune for a 1080 unless you buy one of them used on ebay.

A 1660 Super is sold between 450 and 500 dollars right now. That card price was 240 dollars before covid.

You will not find any GPU at a reasonable price right now.

Just take a look at these ridiculous prices - https://pcpartpicker.com/products/video-card/
Hi gbursson.

Unfortunately these days buying a GPU is totally breaking anyone's bank in the process. GPU's are sold at double their price right now. It's crazy.

A 400 dollars GPU is sold 800 right now. Even a GTX 1650 4GB VRAM is sold at 320 dollars when it's normally 160 dollars.

You can try newegg, sometimes you can find a GPU at a reasonable price. Look for something from a 1660 Ti to a 2060 from Nvidia. Most AMD cards that I have seen are overpriced.
An Nvidia 1660 Ti is 47% faster than your card, a 1080 is 73% faster.

An AMD Vega 56 is 56% faster, a Vega 64 is 74% faster.

You can try searching ebay.com too

You may need a power supply upgrade, make sure you have the power to run a faster card.

A RTX 3060ti you can get in Q on EVGA's website. Check other sites since their hard to find in stock and if they come in stock sell out almost instant.

EDIT you never listed your power supply.

PSU: 1200W
Not sure where you live as this is not offered everywhere but make a account here and get in line, hit notify for all the 3060 ti's and they well put you in line when it's your turn you get a Email and have 8 hours to buy or you loose out.

Like I said also check other sites daily.

This shortage is really bad and I see nothing that indicates it will get better anytime soon.

Don't spend 400 bucks on a low level card just because it's in stock.

EDIT might need a EU or something site from them depending on where you live.
