Hey guys,
I have an i3-8100 paired with 16 GB of DDR4 266mhz ram, an MSI ARMOR RX 570 4GB OC edition.

Is it worth forking over $150 to upgrade from a quad to a six core processor?

The only CPU intensive game I play is Shadow of The Tomb Raider and I want to gain more FPS.

Solution
So what GPU can I get that won't bottleneck the CPU?

First start by monitoring your CPU and GPU usage while you game, you can simply keep taskmanager open in the background and then check usage during intensive scenes. Alternatively you can use a program like MSI Afterburner and enable on screen overlays that will show usages, temps etc.

In any gaming system the GPU will almost always be the bottleneck, you want the CPU to have overhead. As far as an upgrade for the RX570,

On the used market in rough performance (At least in the United States) you can find:

RX580 80-100
GTX1060 are usually around 100
GTX1070 170-200
GTX1070TI 180-230

For something new in order of rough performance

Forgot to mention, budget is $200, could go a bit higher if needed. Also I'm not finding a used GTX1060 for $100 anywhere.

89 bucks

If you have a budget of 200 I would suggest a GTX 1070 or 1070ti. The 1070ti is very close in performance to a GTx 1080

Good news! I just won an auction for a MSI Gaming Geforce GTX 1660 Graphics card....192.50 + shipping and tax.....total $219.29...is that a good deal?

As for the processor....will the i3-8100 cause a bottleneck or will it do just fine for now?

It's not a horrible deal, but brand new 1660 Supers start around 230 with either free or 5 dollar shipping.

Again as far as the CPU being a bottleneck, you will have to find that out yourself by m,monitoring its usage during the games you play.

If your other GPU deals fall through, don't get a GTX 1060 3GB or 6GB. The GTX 1060 6GB is as fast or slightly faster or slower than an RX 570 depending on the game. It would be a side-grade.

You should look at getting minimum GTX 1660 Super/TI, RTX 2060 or Super or RX 5700/XT for an actual good performance boost upgrade.

At this point I'm seriously considering the switch to Ryzen. It just seems like an all around better deal for the money and right now the 1151 socket is at the end of it's lifescycle. Dumping any more money into this machine seems like a waste.

I want to get at least 3-5 years out of my system before upgrading again.

But, AM4 motherboard prices are through the roof, and the used market isn't much better. So, should I just wait it or buy now?
