Hello, I have a cyperpowerpc computer, it's kinda on it's way out.

it sports an intel i5-3570 CPU.

I was wondering what the best CPU I can get without getting an i7?

the reason being, that my legacy PCI sound card was reported not to play nice with i7s, but though there have been reports of it working without any trouble.
plus i7s are generally more expensive.

i'll be mainly using my PC for daw purposes.

Thank you for gathering all that information.
I'm not sure if I should upgrade to another i5 at this point.

My current PC makes a grinding noise, I could take it to a pc repair place and see how that goes.
I was looking for a new pc because i don't feel safe with my data on this computer.
My secondary drive had failed, not sure if it was the whole computer's fault though.

Thanks again, I'm on the fence right now, it's a question of cost vs peace of mind

No problem, if there is grinding noise, it is likely one of the fans. You should be able to isolate which fan it is and replace it. The only ones that can be a chore replacing are GPU fans, but it's not a huge deal.

If the noise is coming from the HDD, then you should be sure to keep backups of all the files you can't stand to lose. You can run diagnostics on it with Seatools:

or

WD Lifeguard:

Despite it's age, your CPU is still very capable as Intel hasn't had any major performance increases since Sandy Bridge.

the CPU you have is the best one for your motherboard unless you get the i7-3770 which would add slightly higher clockspeed and hyper-threading.

That's all great news. It's good to know what my options are at this moment.

I'm thinking of either putting the PC innards into a new case or buying new fans right now.
